new website design

(if you read my other blogs, sorry for the multiple posts!)

I've been meaning to re-design my site for what seems like forever now. Well, more like six months or so... When I started the classic movie art and the flapper doodles, I changed my business cards to look something like this:

Kate Gabrielle

www.kategabrielle.com

www.kategabrielle.etsy.com

www.kategabrielle.blogspot.com

www.silentsandtalkies.etsy.com

www.silentsandtalkies.blogspot.com

www.flapperdoodle.etsy.com

www.flapperdoodle.blogspot.com

kategabrielleart@yahoo.com

Whoa! That's a lot of websites!! Then a lightbulb went off... Wouldn't it be easier to just have links to everything on my main site? Yes!!

So now, www.kategabrielle.com houses all of my links. From this landing point, you can jump over to any of my blogs or etsy shops, join my mailing list, visit my twitter, flickr or youtube accounts, or send me an email. I've included a short bio (along with some fun trivia) and a list of upcoming shows and recent awards. All of this is jam packed into a tiny little site now. Voila! My business cards will now read simply:

Kate Gabrielle

www.kategabrielle.com

kategabrielleart@yahoo.com

So anyway! It would be fantastic if you would take a look at the new site and let me know what you think! I designed it myself (I do a little web design on the side) and I'm pretty happy with my new, unconventional layout.

ps. for some reason I'm having a tiny amount of trouble having it show up totally correctly in the safari browser. it's showing up right, though, in firefox & ie. If anyone can explain why this is happening or any html tags that would fix the discrepancy I'd greatly appreciate it!!

Interview on Artists Who Blog

Yay! My art is featured on "Artists Who Blog"
today along with an interview with yours truly :)

Eloise Ramona and Clarissa have a tea party.

Oh, this one gave me so much trouble!
I messed up on Clarissa's head (it looked like she
was an alien wearing a giant motorcycle helmet with a bow)
so I did it again, and then messed up on the legs & dresses.

At least now it is complete, and they are
finally having their tea party in illustration land :)

Ahh!!! Thank you so much :D
You guys are the best. I would never
have won this without your help!!

To celebrate, from now until next
Monday I'll be including a free
gift with every purchase!!!

yipiee!! :D

For my mom.

My mom has been working part time for the last 8 years. I work from home, so I always look forward to 2pm when she comes home for the day. My dad (who also works from home) and I have lunch ready, and we all sit down together and discuss our day, the news and the cats.

That is, until tomorrow. Starting Monday my mom will be switching to full time. She won't be coming home until 5pm, and she'll be eating her lunch at work. I'm going to miss her so much, but to give her a little reminder of me every day I'll be packing her lunch and doodling on her lunchbag. I'm not going to do a new post for every lunchbag, but I will scan them and put them on the sidebar each day in case you'd like to see them :)

I have some regular flapper doodle drawings to upload, but I'm too tired tonight! So I'll upload them tomorrow afternoon. See you then!

Day 1

New drawings, from suggestions by you!

I just want to thank everyone who gave me such great ideas for flapper doodles! I've printed out all of your comments & emails, and made a list of my favorites to start drawing them.

First up, Thank you to Lindy & Molly for suggesting "Eloise jumps in puddles" and "Eloise signs I Love You" -- I'd actually like to do a sign language drawing with Eloise AND Ramona, but for now I just did Eloise :)

Hope you like them!

Eloise as Audrey Hepburn

Part of a new series of flapper doodles
recreating famous scenes in movies.

I may or may not color the balloons
later.. for now I like it black and white :)

The flappers go to the moon.

Never mind what you may hear today in the flurry over the 40th anniversary of the moon landing... the first men to walk on the moon weren't men at all. They were three fun loving flappers in the 1920's!! Yes, that's right-- Eloise, Ramona and Clarissa were the first flappers on the moon.

Seriously, though-- I'm quite a science geek so I'm really excited about the REAL moon landing anniversary today. I'm one of those people that spends hours pondering life, existence and the grandeur of the universe. After being lost in my own thoughts for a few minutes, in the middle of the grocery store parking lot tonight I actually remarked aloud, "isn't Earth neat?" :)

Even though it's my mom's birthday, and she should pick out whatever she wants to watch, I am going to suggest that we should digest a few episodes of Cosmos with dinner tonight. Have you seen this miniseries? I am a Carl Sagan fanatic!! The graphics have been re-done for the DVD release a few years ago and I highly recommend watching it. The series is timeless and Carl Sagan will teach you everything you ever wanted to know about the earth, the solar system, and human evolution.

So Happy 40th Anniversary, Moon Landing!!

Eloise walks Flapper, the dog

I'm back! The creative dry spell seems to be over (thankfully!) and I am finally getting new ideas again... I have written down all of my favorites from the stupendous suggestions you guys gave me last week and I'm going to start those right away.

For today though, I'd like to introduce you to a new member of the flapper doodle family-- Flapper. I'm sure she'll show up in many of my drawings from now on! Thanks to Diana from Our City Lights for coming up with the name!! :)

I'll be announcing the winner of my flapper doodle giveaway tomorrow afternoon, so stay tuned!

If that link doesn't work for some reason, you can go to http://www.etsy.com/voter.php and just click on "Go Vote!"

I know there's no chance I'll win because a lot of people really, really campaign hard to win these things and you can tell already that some people have like 50 votes on the first day! But I'd love it if I'm at least not in last place! :)

Thanks! and don't forget.... you can CLICK HERE to vote! :D

I am having a major creative dry spell right now.
I haven't drawn or painted anything in weeks.
And I haven't had any great ideas that inspire me
to sit down pronto and start to sketch.

SO I need your help! please!!
If you have any ideas at all for Eloise & Ramona
drawings can you leave suggestions in my comments?

Please please please please please!!
