Help the Gulf Coast!

I've started a collaborative etsy shop called Help the Gulf Coast where etsy sellers can donate their goods to help the victims of the BP oil spill. Pending their approval to use their names in my shop, I'll be donating 50% of the proceeds to Oxfam America and 50% to American Bird Conservancy.

The first listing in the shop is a drawing that I just did called "Eloise loves pelicans." It will only be available in the Help the Gulf Coast shop, and all of the money will be donated.

If you're a seller interested in donating please either convo me, leave a comment here where I can get back to you, or email me at kategabrielleart@yahoo.com. (By donating you agree to ship your item free of charge)

Flapper Doodle laptop decals!

ahhh! Are these neat or what?! They are re-positionable clear decals (so they will look their best on light colored laptops.) The polaroid decal is listed in my shop here for $7 or you can request custom decals for $2 more.

Flapper Doodle recipe cards!

Today seems to be a "finishing projects" day! The makeup bags and recipe cards have both been in the works for at least three months each, and I'm finally listing them both today! :D

The recipe card set includes 10 blank cards, plus one extra card that is pre-printed with my special recipe for the most delicious brownies ever! I can also make these pre-printed with custom recipes, which would make really cute party favors or cards! Available in my shop, here.

Happy Birthday Eloise & Ramona!

It wouldn't be a birthday without a cake!! :D

Keep checking back, I still have more new items and drawings coming up later today!! You can click on the anniversary tag to view all of my anniversary-themed posts from today, including my huge (and super fun!) promotion going on all week!

Eloise and Ramona baking {new artwork!}

Available in my shop here. These are also the illustrations for the flapper doodle recipe cards! I know I promised I'd make them about three months ago (oops!) but they're finally completed, and I'll upload the pictures and list them on etsy later this afternoon! :D

FLAPPER DOODLE IS ONE YEAR OLD!

One year ago today I opened shop on etsy! I really can't believe that it's only been a year... Eloise and Ramona have become such a huge part of my life that I feel as if I've been drawing them a lot longer than 12 months.

When I uploaded the very first flapper doodle to flickr last year, of a then-unnamed flapper duo (with strange helmet-shaped hair) riding a two seated bicycle, I never could have imagined how far those two would travel in one year.

When I was four years old I wanted desperately to be an "artist". At the time, this meant that I wanted to be just like Picasso or Dali, or a different artist in one of my kid's art books. Over the years this morphed into a more realistic (but still idealistic) desire to make a decent living creating. The whole artist mystique probably disappeared around the same time that I realized it was much easier to paint and draw lying in bed on my stomach in pjs than standing in a smock in front of a wooden easel, delicately balancing a palette in my left hand.

Until Flapper Doodle, I thought that even this adapted dream might be a little too far-fetched. Creating isn't hard, but getting other people to like or want what you create certainly is. But thanks to your support of Eloise and Ramona, this dream has become a reality. Because of you, my career now is doing what I love!

The amount of gratitude I have in my heart is too large for me to put into words. I am so indebted to the people who have commented on my blog, purchased my art and goodies, sent me encouraging words on twitter or facebook, blogged about my art or simply subscribed to my blog - a silent, but very meaningful form of support. If Flapper Doodle is a success today, it is all due to you, not me.

Please check back throughout the day for tons of updates. I have a few new products that I'll be listing throughout the day (including -- FINALLY -- the new cosmetic bags!! yay!), a week-long celebratory promotion (if you want a sneak peak, you can go over to my etsy store and check out my shop announcement!) and a very special birthday surprise that I made for Eloise and Ramona!

Thank you again for your enormous support, and I'm looking forward to another wonderful year! :D

Flapper doll update! (or Eloise in her birthday suit)

I'm in a silly mood today :)

Well, here she is folks! After about ten different tests, this is my final pattern for the Eloise doll. As you can see, she's kind of naked. That's because she's about to be packed up and sent off on a trip to visit one of my best friends, The Seamstress Extraordinaire Casey, where she'll be fitted for a special Casey-designed flapper doodle dress! When she's no longer in the nude, I'll be offering her for sale in my shop. The dolls will be made to order, so if you're thinking of ordering one just a heads up that there will be a 1-2 week turnover time.

Now, some of the changes I made from my original pattern:

Before, her feet and arms were separate from the body, which was a pain to sew together (and the limbs were a pain to turn inside out and stuff this way, too). Thanks to the ingenuity of my little brother, she's now sewn in one piece, which for someone who isn't exactly a wizard with the sewing machine makes things a heck of a lot easier!

Also, I decided to embroider her features instead of silk-screen them. The silkscreen can be very hit-or-miss, and I like having more control over how it turns out. I think this method gives the doll more quality, too, and will probably be better as far as longevity goes.

And, last but not least, rather than paint on her dress I decided that she needed a real dress to wear, which is where Casey comes in! I think this finishing touch will make her absolutely perfect. I'm also considering a little string of flapper-beads, but their inclusion might make the doll off-limits for kids, and I'm not sure if I want to do that.

Big news, new drawing & a free printable!

First, the big news!! I have a website!! A REAL website! I designed it myself, and it has a fully stocked shop, with all of my prints (in three sizes!) all of my stationery and pdfs! I still have my etsy shop, and plan on keeping it forever, but from now on I'll be primarily promoting this shop when I post links to items here or advertise on other sites.

It took me days and days to finally finish, especially since each item has its own product page, but it's finally completed and I'd love it so much if you'd check it out and let me know what you think!!! http://www.flapperdoodle.com

Eloise never wins musical chairs.

I have a bunch of "poor Eloise" drawings to show you, but since I've had such a lack of new art for so long I thought I'd break it up into multiple posts. This isn't listed in my new shop yet, I'm going to post all the new drawings together at once. But it is available in my etsy shop :)

For the first time in, well, forever I've started exercising! I'm very excited about it, and I found a workout online that seems to be working well, but I hate that every time I want to do it, I have to stand in front of my computer to look at the diagrams. Soooo I drew my own copy to hang up near my television, so I can watch tv while I workout. If you're interested in having your own copy, just click on the image below for a large scale image to print or save :)

Flapper Flash Cards - Learn to speak 1920's slang

I always say this, but really, THIS might be my favorite flapper doodle project ever! These are flash cards for learning to speak 1920's slang! I picked 20 of my favorite sayings from real flapper dictionaries, and drew illustrations to match them. Each card is 4" x 5" with rounded corners - the front features an illustration & slang term, and the definition is on the back.

For a list of all 20 terms, click here
to view the cards in my shop!

Here are a few of my favorites!

I'm feeling a little under the weather, so I might not be posting ALL of the new products I had planned for this weekend. I'd like to get some rest this weekend so I don't get really sick for Christmas season! I'll try to get some of the products listed by next Wednesday though! :) I hope everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving!

Don't forget, everything in my shop is BOGO Free until Midnight EST on Monday!! Click here for details.

Flapper Doodle 2010 Calendar!

This was probably the most time-intensive Flapper Doodle project I've done so far (and yes, that includes the screen-printing debacle of August.) But it's also the project that I'm the most thrilled about! Seriously, when I just finished a little while ago I was tempted to do cartwheels!!

You can find these in my etsy shop here, at $20 each. I'm printing them and assembling them myself.

YAY!
You can click on the images to see them bigger :)

YAY!!!
