New drawings!

Eloise and Ramona ride their Vespa

Unlike Eloise, Ramona had mastered the pogo stick

The show yesterday wasn't really a success, I made back my investment plus a little extra. In this economy I should be grateful I had any sales at all -- the shows this year have been really pitiful! I hope the economy improves soon or lots of artists will have to quit the business. I noticed a lot of regulars missing from this show already.

Since I didn't do so hot yesterday, and because rain was predicted for today, I decided to skip the second day of the show to stay home and draw instead. I'm really, really happy with what I drew today! I've wanted to do a new Vespa flapper for a while (I liked the old one, but wasn't entirely thrilled with it) and I love love love the new one! Also, one good thing did come out of yesterday's show-- someone suggested that I do the flappers on a pogo stick! I can't believe I hadn't thought of that yet. Naturally, Eloise isn't quite coordinated enough to do it yet, but Ramona is!

Gosh these posts are getting lengthy anymore! Sorry about that!

Anyway, I'm going to list those framed drawings in my originals shop tomorrow and also I have something exciting up my sleeve that hopefully will be finished this week!

That's it for the framed flappers for now-- I have the show tomorrow and judging by how my last few shows have gone, I'm planning on bringing all of these back home with me -- in which case I'll list them in my flapper originals shop next week.

This will be my last show for a while, so I'll have lots of time to do new drawings and new projects! I've ordered more gocco supplies to do more makeup bags and moleskine notebooks, too.

Oh! And I wish I had a professional proofreader or something -- I just realized yesterday that ALL of my Christmas Card sets say "inludes 11 cards" instead of "includes 11 cards" on the packaging! Ugh..

New framed artwork

I have a show this weekend, and I needed to do some new framed flappers for the display. These are all original drawings (some of them are just rehashing old ideas) but some are new-- the tall frame in the front has my new drawing "Emma and her cats" inside, and I finally utilized an idea I've had for a while of stretching one drawing into two picture frames.

Also, you might have noticed that one of my first flapper drawings was Eloise and Ramona playing telephone, but I had both of them listening! I felt like such an idiot after I realized that. Anyway, I finally fixed that with this drawing. Ramona is talking, Eloise is listening! I might be offering this in a two-print set soon, I think that would be neat!

Anyone have ideas for drawings that I could stretch into two separate frames?

Emma and her cats

My friend Vivienne recently did a huge series of cat paintings (I'm the proud owner of this one!) and it really got me inspired do a cat painting myself. This is sort of a self portrait (Emma is my autobiographical flapper) The one on Emma's head is Hypatia, and the one head-butting Emma's leg is Chloe.

Halloween Party Invitations!

Now that fall is here I'm ready for Halloween! I don't enjoy it as much as I did when I was a kid, but it's still a fun holiday. I've never been big on candy, so what I looked forward to each October 31st was bringing home my loot and organizing it. All of the tootsie rolls together, all of the Snickers lined up in a row. Once I had it all perfectly arranged, my mom would take a picture and then I'd let everyone else eat the candy :)

Of course one of the most fun things about Halloween is the Halloween party! I threw one for my little brother a few years ago, and I pulled out all the stops! I made eyeball cupcakes, had a "guess how many maggots are in the jar" contest (rice grains mixed with gray food coloring-- gross!) and I made headstones out of clay (with the names of his guests etched into the stone!) as the placeholders. Then I cut off Barbie arms, glued them to the tablecloth and sprinkled coffee grounds around them to make them look like they were coming out of the grave in front of the headstones. It's hard to explain so here are the pictures:

It was pretty neat :) Anyway, the whole thing would have been even NEATER if I had some really nifty Halloween Party invitations to send...

Speaking of which-- I've just made and listed Halloween Party invitations in the shop! The invitation shows the flappers dressed up in their Halloween costumes as a pirate (note the little parrot and the hook) a jack-o-lantern, a vampire, a ghost and a witch. I'd have one dress up as a flapper, but, well...

They come in packs of 10, at $10 each.

Happy Autumn!

It's still uncomfortably hot here in NJ, but just knowing that today was the first day of fall made me happy. Now I can't wait to jump in a big pile of leaves!

New drawing and my new shop!

I was a busy girl today!

First of all I have a new drawing, a little different from what I normally do, but I like it :)

I've been on a huge 60's kick lately, and it's definitely reflected in my new drawing. Also, I tried out some new colored paper I just purchased. I like the effect of the black on gray but it's a pain to scan!

For now I only have the original listed, but if you'd like a print I'd be glad to make one :)

I also spent what seemed like a million hours today setting up my new etsy originals shop. I took photos of my original drawings and paintings (I really need tips on photography. As hard as I tried-- natural sunlight, too!--they just didn't come out fantastic) and listed each one in the shop. I have about 20 left to do, but I think for now this is good! Here is a sampling of what's in the shop!

8" x 10" $25

I wasn't thrilled with the fashion week drawings I did yesterday so I'm going to try again... It's about time I started posting some new drawings on a more regular basis!

Oh!! And I'm going to be having a big sale pretty soon so keep your eyes peeled :)

Update

Hi! Just a little update about what I'm planning for the flappers :)

I opened a new etsy shop called Flapper Originals where I'll finally be selling my original drawings and paintings of the flappers. I've had a few tucked away in the back of my etsy shop for months, but I haven't really made it obvious that they're available and I haven't added any new drawings to the shop since May.

Fashion week has inspired me to do a little series of flappers just standing still looking great in really neat clothes. I'm doing some work on that tomorrow so hopefully I'll have them for you to see by Monday -- they're on colored paper instead of white and I might only be offering the originals. We'll see..

I sold out of the makeup bags and the moleskine notebooks this week -- I'm probably not going to make the makeup bags again, but I'm planning on doing a new series of moleskines pretty soon. Suggestions on what design I should print?

I lowered the price on the tote bags to $10 each, and I added two new sets of prints to my shop -- a FUN set which has four fun themed prints (hula hoop, skating, jump rope and hide and seek) and a WINTER set which has four winter themed prints (snow angels, snowball fight, ice skating and sledding)

Well that's about it for now. Hopefully I'll have some new drawings to post in the next few days!!

Tote bags!

First, please pardon the kind of crummy photograph. For some reason I just couldn't get a good picture of this today.

Anyway -- I FINALLY mastered the screen printer last night! Albeit, only 9 of my 12 bags came out right, but that's more than half, right?! They're 15" x 16" on white cotton - $10 each.

I'm thrilled with the final product, and I'm so glad I got these finished in time for my outdoor show this weekend. I'm planning on taking all nine with me, so if you were interested in getting a tote bag you should either order today or e-mail me to reserve one so that I don't take it to the show :)

Stickers and my failed attempts at screen printing.

Ever since about 10pm last night I've been trying consistently (with a small five hour break for sleeping) to screen print my tote bags. I've had so many problems I can't even begin to list them -- the whole ordeal has been so frustrating I'm tempted to skip the tote bags altogether. I'm very persistent, so I'll probably keep trying but BOY OH BOY is it tempting to take a hammer to my whole screen printing machine.

Well, on the bright side, I have decided to make sticker sets! These were a lot easier than screen printing, and they're pretty adorable. Each set has 12 stickers and they're $5 in my etsy shop.

If I do get the tote bag situation figured out, I'll post pictures of the finished product (aka my Everest)

You, too, can be as chic and stylish as Eloise and Ramona!

I can't get over this, it's exactly the same as Eloise and Ramona's dresses! Now you can bring a little flapper doodle into your wardrobe -- courtesy of Modcloth :)
